Cover-Up

For Emilio Pucci's Fall/Winter 2012 collection, designer Peter Dundas sought inspiration from the iconic Helmut Newton image featuring Danish model Vibeke Knudsen shot in Rue Aubriot in 1975. Knudsen poses bathed in the street light, decked out in Yves Saint Laurent's classic le Smoking tuxedo whilst being caressed by a nude model sporting little more than a pair of high heels. It is this intensely private moment together with the elegance and strength of Knudsen which casting directors Barbara Nicoli and Leila Ananna sought to emulate in selecting the cast for Pucci's F/W 2012 presentation.

And so, the line-up of models selected by the casting duo reflected Dundas' new vision for Pucci with an emphasis on a newly covered-up silhouette, subtle flashes of bare flesh, and exquisite men's tailoring. Kati Nescher, Joan Smalls, Marie Piovesan, Nadja Bender, Suvi Koponen, Kasia Struss, Ayemeline Valade and Jourdan Dunn were joined by newcomers Cora Emmanuel, Ava Smith, Montana Cox, Othilia Simon, Lina Zhang and Elena Bartels for Pucci's model army, combining just the right mix of masculine edge, striking individual looks and elegance. Much like Newton's iconic image, Nicoli and Ananna captured Dundas' new take on Pucci's sex factor with a wonderful blend of androgyny, masculinity and subtle feminine allure.
