A New Mood

In recent times, I have noted a discernible shift in modelling trends towards a new breed of model. Casting agents, designers and editors are firmly behind the push towards encouraging the use of models with a few more years of life experience under their belt such as the industry's latest obsessions; Aymeline Valade, Kati Nescher, Marie Piovesan and Saskia de Brauw. It is also heartening to witness faces like Arizona Muse, Ava Smith, Julia Frauche and Stef Van der Laan, finally cracking modelling's major league following years of grunt modelling. With Vogue's Health Initiative Pact coming into effect this past June, one of the initiative's key points which will certainly encourage the trend towards the use of older models is Vogue's ban on working with models under the age of sixteen. American Vogue gets things off to a promising start in its July 2012 issue with an editorial featuring twenty-eight year old German model Kati Nescher shot by David Sims. Nescher who juggles modelling with motherhood, is captivating in the editorial which showcases a myriad of looks from the Fall/Winter 2012 collections of Balenciaga, Marc Jacobs, Comme des Garçons and Alexander McQueen.
