Worth the Wait - Juliana Schurig

New Jersey native Juliana Schurig first emerged on the modelling scene in 2008, garnering all the right attention with editorial spreads in the Japanese editions of Numero and Nylon, Italian Elle, French Revue de Modes and Teen Vogue. Schurig's icy blue eyed stare, skyscraper high cheek bones and her distinct high fashion Euro vibe caught my attention instantly. Schurig's runway presence has been sporadic over the past few seasons with her most notable appearances being at Jen Kao, Adam, Karen Walker, Tuleh and the Calvin Klein White Label presentation during the New York Spring/Summer 2010 collections. Just as Schurig appeared to be on the brink of a major breakthrough moment, she dropped off modelling's radar altogether.

Fast forward to the New York Fashion Week pre-castings for the Spring/Summer 2013 season and I literally stopped dead in my tracks when Schurig walked through the door at Altuzarra. Now aged eighteen, Schurig looks like a young woman who is ready for her moment in the spotlight. Speaking with Inoubliable Model Army, Schurig explained that she had taken time out from modelling to focus on her graduation year of high school. Seeing Schurig again was like catching up with an old friend. Of course Schurig is still stunning beyond compare, but nowadays she exudes a womanly confidence and self-assuredness that make her relatable and more importantly, believable. Signed with Ford Models, Schurig was excited about the season ahead and the prospect of committing to modelling full-time. Schurig is a blonde with a twist, she exudes sex appeal but in a way that is for want of a better word - classy with an edge. I caught up again with Schurig a week later at the castings for Oscar de la Renta where she was in a euphoric state having walked in the Alexander Wang show the evening before. Schurig described the experience as "incredible, amazing and electric" and was bristling with excitement with the knowledge that all eyes will now be trained on her in the lead in to the Milan and Paris shows. Schurig's gold chip status as a Top Ten Newcomer for the Spring/Summer 2013 collections is a sealed deal and the timing couldn't be more right.
