New Discoveries - Jenny Monteiro

Since returning from New York Fashion Week, my eyes have been firmly trained on the streets of Berlin in search of untapped modelling talent. When model scouting, I look out for a combination of criteria; raw natural beauty, an engaging presence, the shock of the new and a feeling that I get which may be attributed to a combination of all of the above. More often than not, it is only on rare occasions that I feel enraptured enough by a girl's physical beauty to actually approach her. I was left with no option but to do so when I first caught sight of fellow Berliner Jenny Monteiro as she sat down next to me in a cafe just two weeks ago. During the course of the ensuing twenty minutes, I quietly stole glances at Monteiro and waited until it was time to leave before going in for the kill.

Nineteen year old Monteiro is blessed with an astounding beauty. Her perfectly oval face shape is reminiscent of supermodel Christy Turlington whilst her luxuriant caramel skin tone and dreamy green eyes flecked with shards of gold, bring to mind the nineties modelling sensation Brandi Quinones. Standing at 170 cm, Monteiro possesses that rare mix of prettiness counter-balanced by a tomboyish androgyny that is currently trés au courant in fashion circles. Even more compelling though is Monteiro's astute mind and her genuine interest in life, people and spirituality. Monteiro has been approached by model scouts in the past, but is currently focused on completing her final year of high school education before taking the next step towards exploring her modelling potential. Monteiro posed for Inoubliable Model Army in her natural state and spoke in depth about her interests in modelling and beyond, revealing a personality that is every bit as captivating as her beauty.

Inoubliable Model Army: How were you discovered and how do you feel about being featured as a New face on Inoubliable Model Army?
JM: I was sitting in a coffee shop in Berlin with my boyfriend having breakfast when Neill introduced himself as a fashion blogger, and said that he liked my look and that I should consider modelling. He gave me his business card to get in touch if I was interested in knowing more. I feel truly honoured to be featured on Inoubliable Model Army!

Inoubliable Model Army: How old are you and what is your racial background?
JM: I'm 19 years old. I was born in Berlin and my mom is German and my dad is from Mozambique. But there are also Indian and Chinese roots from my paternal side.

Inoubliable Model Army: What do you think makes you Inoubliable (Unforgettable)?
JM: People often tell me that the one thing that is special about me is my gregarious personality. I always try to cheer everyone up and stay positive in any given situation. Another thing is that I'm relatively pale for my mixed ethnic background which is offset by my brown-greenish eyes. I guess these are qualities that make me stand out.

Inoubliable Model Army: Why would you like to pursue a career in modelling and what do you hope to achieve?
JM: Firstly, I'm always glad and thankful to have the opportunity to experience new and exciting things. I'm just going to take things as they come and look forward to giving my best while enjoying whatever happens in the process.

Inoubliable Model Army: Do you have any favourite models?
JM: My favourite models are Tyra Banks, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, and Bambi Northwood-Blyth. I just love Tyra. She's a natural beauty with a strong personality and she's a true entertainer. Rosie has a gorgeous face with a baby doll-like quality that I adore. I recently discovered Bambi, who has a striking face with distinctive eyebrows and incredible bone structure. Even though she is not the typical tall model, she really knows how to use her body and looks amazing in every picture. These are all models that inspire me, each of them in their own unique way.

Inoubliable Model Army: What are your views on diversity in modelling?
JM: I think there is more and more diversity in modelling. Not only in terms of ethnic background and mixture but also relating to height, age, tattoos... There are so many different people out there, whose diversity definitely needs to be shown.

Inoubliable Model Army: What are your interests and passions outside of modelling?
JM: I'm actually really into film and TV hosting, which I would one day like to pursue to introduce people to lifestyle events and places. I also love music and enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends.

Inoubliable Model Army: What do you think are the qualities which are required for success in modelling?
JM: Well, I think to be on time and to be reliable for starters. Also to be communicative, open-minded, autonomous and creative. I speak four languages; German, Portuguese, English and French, and consider myself as a person who gives their best and is willing to do what I'm asked and who is also relatable to others.

Inoubliable Model Army: Complete this sentence - Happiness for me is...
JM: To have a day off, enjoying it with family and friends, going to church, treating myself to a cafe latte and a blueberry muffin or home-cooked food by my grandma. Being done with my exams so that I can wander freely through the city dwelling in my thoughts and ideas.

Inoubliable Model Army: What insights have you gotten out of meeting with Inoubliable Model Army?
JM: I think the most valuable insight that I've gotten from this experience is an even clearer vision of my strengths and how to use them right, and also about my opportunities within modelling.
