Top Ten Newcomers S/S 2013 - Chiharu Okunugi

Inoubliable Model Army first cottoned onto Japanese newcomer Chiharu Okunugi a year ago during the Spring/Summer 2012 collections when she swaggered down the runway at Hermés, Mugler and Yohji Yamamoto. In the lead up to New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013, I had high hopes for Okunugi and found myself baffled by her apparent scarcity at shows in spite of having been spotted at castings for BCBG Max Azria and ACW Casting. My fears were allayed however when the 177 cm luminescent beauty emerged as an exclusive at Prada in Milan. I adore Chiharu's heart shaped face, twinkling eyes and radiant smile but what impresses me most is her wonderful versatility. Chiharu can go from cutesy girl next door, to geeky Harajuku girl to smouldering Veronica Lake type within the space of a few single frames. Casting director Ashley Brokaw is also a convert, having cast Chiharu exclusively for all three of her shows; Prada, Balenciaga and Miu Miu. Okunugi's romantic lilting  beauty, chic blunt fringe and her status as the season's most exclusively booked newcomer will surely lead to equally lucrative editorial and campaign visibility in the months ahead.
