Eastern Influence

With designers turning in their droves towards Asia as a source of inspiration for the Spring/Summer 2013 collections, it has been a fascinating to observe how these design influences have been interpreted in ensuing fashion editorials. Vogue Russia enlists the talents of photographer Sebastian Kim and Dutch newcomer Stef Van der Laan for a spellbinding editorial in its February 2013 issue. Sporting a demi-punk/rockabilly mohawk and a snap challenging gaze, Stef Van der Laan looks mesmerising as she models designs by Jean Paul Gaultier, Balenciaga, Chanel, Christopher Kane, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Lanvin. Sebastian Kim encapsulates the mysterious exoticism of the east with iridescent flashes of red, gold and green as backdrop to Van der Laan's beguiling beauty. Represented by IMG Model Management globally, Van der Laan forms part of the Dutch collective of newcomers whose unconventional good looks are redefining traditional concepts of beauty.
