Back to the Future - Malaika Firth

Prada unveils its Fall/Winter 2013 campaign today featuring a magnificent cast of promising newcomers, established faces, and iconic supers. Photographer Steven Meisel captures the essence of Prada with a simple paired back grey background, wooden floors, and steel legged chairs contrasting with the rich opulence of the Italian label's Fall/Winter 2013 collection. Casting director Ashley Brokaw takes a leap of faith with red hot newcomers Malaika Firth, Kristine Frøset, Amanda Murphy, and Sophia Ahrens who are joined by comeback kid Catherine McNeil, Meisel favourite Fei Fei Sun, and the elusive Freja Beha Erichsen. Rounding out the cast are industry veterans Christy Turlington, Rachel Williams, Cameron Russell, and the enigmatic French model-turned-music producer Caroline de Maigret.

Inoubliable Model Army is particularly excited about the debut appearance of Kenyan British newcomer Malaika Firth, who first popped up on IMA's radar over a year ago. Firth owes her exotic hard to place looks to a unique blend of Kenyan, Ugandan, Seychellois, Swiss and British heritage, and was brought to Premier Model Management's attention thanks to Firth's mother who called the agency after having viewed the agency's "The Model Agency" television series. Firth's appearance in Prada's Fall/Winter 2013 campaign marks the first time a black model has been featured in a Prada campaign line-up since Naomi Campbell's Fall/Winter 1994 appearance.

Flowers in the Attic

French beauties Marine Deleeuw and Josephine Le Tutour star in an eerily beautiful editorial for Exit Magazine's Spring/Summer 2013 issue. Set in a stairwell leading up to what appears to be an attic, newcomers Deleeuw and Le Tutour pose for photographer Rafael Stahelin in a sparsely furnished room strewn with flowers. Deleeuw's brooding Gallic features and Le Tutour's haunting gaze set the mood for this reflective editorial. Represented by Elite Model Management in Paris and the Society in New York, both Deleeuw and Le Tutour were two of the most hotly contested newcomers of the Fall/Winter 2013 season, appearing in 63 and 52 shows apiece. The runaway successes of Le Tutour and Deleeuw is a testament to the scouting powers of the Elite Model Look competition of which both models are former alumni. Le Tutour took out the title of the French division of the Elite Model Look contest in 2011 and Deleeuw competed in 2012 before taking the modelling world by storm during the Fall/Winter 2012 collections.

Cavalli's Angels

Roberto Cavalli enlists three of the modelling's big guns for its Fall/Winter 2013 campaign lensed by photographer Mario Testino. Supermodels Liya Kebede, Liu Wen, and Iselin Steiro pose for Testino with car headlights shining brightly on them through a misty haze. The stunning trio are styled by Marie Chaix in elaborate black and white ensembles with a dash of red from the Italian label's Fall/Winter 2013 collection. The charismatic beauties make for an inspired piece of casting with Norwegian Iselin Steiro's blonde icy looks complimenting the glowing rich caramel skin tones and exuberance of Ethiopian stunner Liya Kebede, and the exotic modern day beauty of Chinese top model Liu Wen. Both Steiro and Kebede have been modelling stalwarts for over a decade while twenty-five year old Wen has achieved many firsts in her comparatively short modelling career as a face and spokesperson for Estée Lauder cosmetics and as the first model of Asian descent to walk in the Victoria's Secret Runway Show. Roberto Cavalli clearly has his eye on the prize with a Fall/Winter 2013 campaign and cast that is relatable to a large segment of the global market thanks to its inclusive beauty ideal.

Savages

Paris Vogue takes a walk on the wild side with supermodel Anja Rubik for an editorial shot on location in St Barths with photographer Mario Sorrenti. The Polish beauty strips down to the bare essentials - swimwear from the Fall/Winter 2013 collections and tribal inspired accessories styled by Editor-in-chief Emmanuelle Alt. The multi-faceted Rubik continues to seduce the fashion world with her dynamic personality, intelligence, and versatile beauty following almost a decade in the modelling spotlight. Rubik and Sorrenti are certainly no strangers, having collaborated previously on shoots for W Magazine, the New York Times T Magazine style supplement, and on multiple Paris Vogue editorials. Sorrenti captures Rubik's refined sensuality as she poses languidly poolside, on the beach foreshore, and against the stunning backdrop of the Caribbean Sea. Rubik is one of a handful of the current generation of models who has truly earned her supermodel stripes with her chameleon-like modelling ability and through her contributions to the industry as Editor-in-chief of 25 Magazine.

Prada's Red Alert

The Spring/Summer 2014 Prada Menswear show offers a small glimpse of what may be in store casting-wise for the Spring/Summer 2014 Women's RTW collections. Casting director Ashley Brokaw corralled a selection of female models to partake in the Prada Menswear presentation consisting of a smattering of new faces and current Prada it girls. Industry veteran Cameron Rusell and Prada campaign girls Vanessa Axente and Amanda Murphy were the only familiar faces in the 12 strong line-up. Amongst the nine newcomers making their Prada runway debuts were Kenyan native Malaika Firth, Brazilian Marina Nery, the adorable Nashville cutie Leona Binx Walton, and Tamila Naser from the Dominican Republic. Rounding out the cast were New Zealander Holly Rose, another Jablonski by the name of Maggie, Germany's Anna Ewers, Dutchie Julia Bergshoeff, and pint-sized Norwegian/American Kristine Frøset. Ashley Brokaw brings an element of surprise to Prada's runway with her eclectic and racially diverse selection of models. With debate swirling around the ongoing lack of diversity on fashion's runways, IMA hopes that this inclusive line-up of Prada beauties will have a flow on effect throughout the Spring/Summer 2014 collections.

Defining Lines - Ji Hye Park

Korean newcomer Ji Hye Park appears in the July 2013 issue of Russian Vogue captured by photographer Emma Tempest. Park's pristine angular features serve as the focal point for the series of studio and beachside location images. Decked out in black and white ensembles from the Fall/Winter 2013 collections of Marni, Antonio Berardi, Costume National, Givenchy, Gucci, and Valentino, Park cuts a fine figure as she braves the elements of the wind, sun, and sand. During the Fall/Winter 2013 collections, Park emerged as a front runner amongst the current generation of emerging Asian models with 31 blue chip show appearances. Park's stunning versatility was evident as she embodied the aesthetic for a diverse range of shows including Alexander Wang, Prabal Gurung, Oscar de la Renta, Stella McCartney, Miu Miu, Lanvin, and Donna Karan. IMA adores Park's razor sharp cheekbones, delicate almond shaped eyes, and the sleek lines of her imposing 179 cm runway silhouette which has designers and casting directors enamoured.
