Body of Proof - Miranda Kerr

One model whose looks have grown on me gradually over the years is that of Australian beauty Miranda Kerr. Discovered in 1997 via the Dolly Magazine Model Search, Kerr conquered the local modelling scene via gigs for Australian department chain David Jones, and Aussie publications Cleo, Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, before relocating to New York to further her international modelling ambitions. Initially pitched as a commercial model, Kerr launched into the public's consciousness via contracts with cosmetics giant Maybelline and lingerie company Victoria's Secret. A switch of management in 2009 to modelling powerhouse IMG saw a definitive change in Kerr's modelling trajectory courtesy of an exclusive Spring/Summer 2010 appearance at Balenciaga. Kerr monopolised on the wave of interest generated by that singular runway turn with a deluge of blue chip bookings; walking for Prada at the Fall/Winter 2010 collections followed by campaigns for Prada and Jil Sander, and the clincher - a Vogue Italia September 2010 cover lensed by the Godfather of modelling Steven Meisel.

Kerr has since traversed the worlds of commercial and high fashion modelling seamlessly, alternating between air kiss blowing antics at the Victoria's Secret Runway show and more subdued appearances at Miu Miu, Chanel, Stella McCartney, Lanvin, Christian Dior, and Viktor & Rolf. What I admire though most about Kerr is that she has parlayed IMG's high fashion initiative into solid editorial bookings for the likes of Love, V, Harper's Bazaar, Purple, French Numéro, and virtually every international edition of Vogue. Displaying stunning versatility, smart business acumen, and a work ethic that would put most of us to shame, Kerr has earned her place amongst fashion's elite. In the words of IMG Model Management's CEO and super agent Ivan Bart, "Until Miranda Kerr, I had never seen it the other way: where somebody was a star in a mass-market brand and as a result was embraced by fashion. But again, that's not without work, strategy and planning."
