Six is Enough?

Vogue Italia celebrates 25 years with Editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani and resident photographer Steven Meisel leading proceedings, with a visual smorgasbord of modelling talent spread over six alternating covers. Modelling legend Linda Evangelista leads the charge with supermodels Gisele Bundchen, Natalia Vodianova, Stella Tenant, Raquel Zimmerman, and Tony Ward in tow. Comeback kid Cameron Russell, Meghan Collison, and breakthrough star Amanda Murphy round out the cast. Meisel references Richard Avedon's iconic Revlon Unforgettable campaign and the high energy imagery of the late great Bill King for the fashion bible's "Revolution" inspired issue. The Fall/Winter 2013 collections of Versace, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Giorgio Armani, and Valentino provide further inspiration for the eclectic mish-mash of covers. The only let down as far as IMA is concerned is the alarming absence of any models of colour amongst the extensive cast. Perhaps a 7th cover featuring modelling legends Iman Abdulmajid, Liya Kebede, and Naomi Campbell, alongside current top models Jourdan Dunn, Joan Smalls, Grace Mahary, Senait Gidey and Malaika Firth would have been more in keeping with the issue's revolutionary spirit.
