No Time Like the Present - Anna Ewers

With only two days left till Paris Fashion Week concludes, IMA is frantically piecing together the final pieces to the puzzle that will make up IMA's Top Ten Newcomers for the Spring/Summer 2014 season. One model who is up for serious contention is the pint-sized German bombshell Anna Ewers. Standing at a relatively modest 176 cm in height, twenty year old Ewers has the industry captivated by her remarkable likeness to German supermodel Claudia Schiffer and her beguiling runway presence. Ewers' natural Bardot-esque bombshell looks and simmering sensuality are downplayed in an editorial shot by Josh Olins for the latest issue of Paris Vogue. Stylist Geraldine Saglio dresses Ewers for comfort in simple jeans, classic white t shirts and long-sleeved collared shirts paired with oversized jumpers and winter coats perfect for Fall. Shot on location in the Hamptons, Ewers takes a breather whilst decked out in looks from the Fall/Winter 2013 collections of Isabel Marant, Maje, Gucci, and Paul & Joe amongst others. The subtle expression in Ewer's gaze and her versatile modelling ability hint at the mammoth show season that has unfurled since her stunning opening slot at Alexander Wang's Spring/Summer 2014 presentation in New York.

Poetic Justice - Nina Ricci S/S 2014

Designer Peter Copping's collection of elegant feminine designs for Nina Ricci's Spring/Summer 2014 presentation proved to be the ultimate juxtaposition to a demonstration staged by Ukrainian feminist group Femen which saw two bare-chested female protesters storming the runway. A new model army of flawless beauties including Josephine Van Delden, Kate Goodling, Kai Newman, Elodia Prieto, Ophélie Guillermand, Holly Rose Emery, Natalia Siodmak, and surprise package Samantha Archibald set the tone for Copping's understated lady-like designs. However it was British newcomer Hollie May Saker who bore the brunt of the Femen protesters advances as she fended off the pair all the while maintaining her perfect pout and runway swagger. As the Femen protesters were safely escorted off the runway, the show went on with Peter Copping's poetic designs restoring a sense of equilibrium to the proceedings. With Paris Fashion Week in full flight, France's fashion elite have been hasty to anoint American Kate Goodling, Jamaican stunner Kai Newman, exotic French belles Ophélie Guillermand, and Elodia Prieto, New Zealander Holly Rose Emery, and Russian Natalia Siodmak as the new darlings of Paris' gilded high fashion runways.

She's Got the Power! - Balmain S/S 2014

Day 3 of Paris Fashion Week was a corker with Rick Owen's Spring/Summer 2014 celebration of racial and body diversity which saw a stampede of full-figured mostly black step dancers storming the runway. Over at Balmain, designer Olivier Rousteing and KCD casting led a quieter revolution by bucking with its standard cast of go-to girls in favour of a smattering of new modelling talent mixed in with established runway veterans. Among the imposing supers were first timer Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls, Toni Garrn, Magdalena Frackowiak, Karmen Pedaru, Suvi Koponen, Kasia Struss, Andreea Diaconu, and Saskia de Brauw. Thrown into the mix were celebrity models Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Edie Campbell, Georgia May Jagger, and Lily McMenamy. Bringing a refreshing dose of new blood to Balmain's runway were relative newcomers Hana Jirickova, the stealth-like Amanda Wellsh, Calvin Klein exclusives Cindy Bruna, Elodia Prieto, and Svetlana Zhakarova, icy blonde Sasha Luss, and French beauties Joséphine Le Tutour, Cora Emmanuel, and Ophélie Guillermand. Given that Rousteing appeared to be channeling Chanel designs circa 1987, the inclusion of modelling's most promising ingenues imbued the collection with a  fresh youthful vigour.

Stronger Together

i-D Magazine recruits Puerto Rican supermodel Joan Smalls in an energetic display of court side antics for its Fall/Winter 2013 issue. Twenty-five year old Smalls utilises her dancing prowess and natural athleticism to whip a posse of male modelling talent into action for photographer Matt Jones. The editorial entitled "Together Everyone Achieves More", embraces the principles of team work with Smalls as the barracking ring leader. Smalls shows off her sultry latin beauty in figure-revealing ensembles selected by stylist Clare Richardson from the Fall/Winter 2013 collections of Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, Alexander Wang, and Rodarte amongst others. Accompanying the visuals are a series of quotes from Smalls in which she details, "A fashion shoot is the ultimate creative collaboration. Good music and good energy are important. It's best to be friendly, make jokes and make people laugh. I love seeing people smile." Ranked number 1 on models.com's Top 50 List of Models for the past year, Smalls is the very embodiment of a modern day supermodel with spectacular looks, a megawatt personality, and an astute business-minded approach to the industry.

Prime Contender - Edita Vilkevicuite

Lithuanian beauty Edita Vilkevicuite makes the leap from top model to modelling's major league with a sensational debut cover appearance for Paris Vogue and an accompanying editorial feature shot by Mario Testino. Vilkevicuite goes head-to-head with Polish supermodel Anja Rubik along the sun-drenched promenades of the French Riviera in shots that pay tribute to the late great photographer Helmut Newton. The brazen pair are styled to excess by Editor-in-Chief Emmanuelle Alt in opulent furs, leather ensembles, and the bare minimum whilst dripping in glittering gems. Twenty-four year old Vilkevicuite nabs the October 2013 cover spot decked out in a Balmain leather jacket and pants from the label's Fall/Winter 2013 collection. Vilkevicuite has maintained a strong editorial and runway presence since debuting at Just Cavalli during the Spring/Summer 2007 show season. Appearances in publications including W, Allure, i-D, Muse, Industrie, V, French Numéro, and the American, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, and Turkish editions of Vogue are indicative of Vilkevicuite's wide market appeal. Vilkevicuite's high profile campaign gigs with Calvin Klein, in addition to appearances in the Pirelli 2012 calendar lensed by Mario Sorrenti and scintillating turns on the runway for Victoria's Secret's annual runway extravaganza all point towards her prime contention as a leading model amongst the current generation of Supers.
