A League of Her Own - Vanessa Axente

There are runway rookie stars and there are bonafide modelling supernovas whose blue chip editorial and campaign bookings are the stuff made of true modelling legends. One model who fits into the latter category is the exquisite Hungarian beauty Vanessa Axente. Modelling since the age of fourteen, Axente who is now 18 appears this month on the covers of the American, German and Italian editions of Vogue. In addition to her burgeoning runway resumé - her Fall/Winter 2014 show list included appearances at Valentino, Hermés, Givenchy, Dior, and Gucci, Axente has racked up campaign gigs for Prada, Chanel, Hugo Boss, and is the current campaign star for Calvin Klein Collection Fall/Winter 2014 lensed by David Sims. Model-maker Steven Meisel has captured the 182 cm basketball and dance enthusiast for four Vogue Italia covers and numerous editorial spreads. IMA has had the supreme pleasure of meeting Axente on multiple occasions; during the Spring/Summer 2012 castings for Altuzarra, backstage at the Oscar de la Renta Spring/Summer 2013 show, and most recently in between castings on the streets of New York. Each time Axente has been a complete delight; engaging, super professional, gracious, and "Inoubliable" in every way.

Maternity Leave - Ashleigh Good

New Zealand's top modelling export Ashleigh Good backs up her recent return to the runway at Chanel Couture with an equally divine editorial appearance in the August 2014 issue of Australian Vogue. Photographed by Dan Martensen on the scenic streets of Paris, Good who is six months pregnant barely shows signs of a maternal bump as she models oversized sweaters, blazers, and knee grazing skirts styled by Clare Richardson. Absent from the runway since the Fall/Winter 2014 season, Good has quickly adopted a model as muse status to designer Karl Lagerfeld, appearing for nine consecutive seasons on the runway at Chanel and remerging on the runway closing as a radiant bride at the iconic fashion house's Couture 2014 show. Lagerfeld is clearly smitten with the twenty-two year old having photographed her recently for Fendi's Fall/Winter 2014 campaign and the Fall/Winter 2014 edition of CR Fashion Book. Good is due to give birth to a girl in late September and will no doubt have the fashion industry pining for her return to the modelling's elite ranks in the new year.

Nature's Best - Daria Werbowy

Supermodel Daria Werbowy brings a stunning dose of reality to the pages of Interview Magazine captured by longtime collaborator photographer Mikael Jansson. The Ukrainian/Canadian beauty poses sans make-up for a series of intimate and unretouched black and white portraits. The resulting 20 page editorial showcases the thirty year old industry veteran in all of her natural splendour while on location at Jansson's summer holiday house on an archipelago near Stockholm. Werbowy is simply transfixing as she poses serenely while on horseback, skippering a boat, and communing with nature. The editorial highlights the personal and unique relationship between photographer and muse with Jansson honing in on every crevice of Werbowry's exquisitely lined visage. In the editorial's accompanying interview, Werbowry speaks candidly about her aversion to the industry's obsession with retouching, "I think it looks great to see the real person. I'm not 14 anymore, and I think it's so much more of a celebration of the human existence to see it the real way". Following a career spanning over a decade, Werbowy continues to command the fashion industry's attention with her compelling beauty, model as muse propensity, and her passion for adventure, travel, and the unconventional.

Who's that Girl - Edie Campbell

Arriving on the scene in 2005 when she was cast by British Vogue's Lucinda Chambers for an editorial lensed by star photographer Mario Testino, Edie Campbell by no means a newcomer is currently experiencing what can only be described as a bonafide modelling moment. The twenty-four year old British beauty is the 'model of the moment' appearing on the cover of American Vogue's September 2014 edition, Vogue Italia's August 2014 issue, and in Fall/Winter 2014 campaigns for Bottega Veneta, Lanvin, Alexander McQueen, Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein ck One Fragrance, Sandro, and Zara. The doe-eyed model with the irresistible blonde shag hairdo has charmed fashion folk with her alluring combination of street chic and fine English pedigree (her mother Sophie Hicks being a former British Vogue fashion editor). In 2013, American Vogue's Anna Wintour joined the Campbell fan club stating emphatically, "Edie has the kind of quirky beauty that fashion types can't help loving,... and I won't be at all surprised if she has the kind of career like Stella Tenant's - someone whose looks and intelligence keep the industry enthralled for a long time to come." Campbell makes further inroads this month into fashion's inner circle appearing in 'Edie a Paris', a divine Paris Vogue editorial shot by Alasdair McLellan. Campbell is the embodiment of Parisian chic styled by fashion editor Suzanne Koller as she poses for McLellan along the River Seine while taking in the city's many magnificent sights.

British Vogue's 12 Year Drought - Malaika Firth & Riley Montana

British Vogue's bumper September 2014 issue features a Bruce Weber lensed editorial showcasing a magnificent cast of black modelling talent. Supermodel Naomi Campbell returns to her native Brixton accompanied by stunning newcomers Malaika Firth, Riley Montana, and Alewya Demmisse. Entitled "Home-Coming", Campbell is captured by Weber in a series of intimate portraits as she catches up with an entourage of friends and family including designer Azzedine Alaia, stylist and fashion editor Juilia Sarr Jamois, and her mother and grandma Valerie and Ruby Campbell. The celebratory proceedings are marred however by the absence of Campbell and her coterie of rising black stars from the magazine's cover. Which makes little sense from a high fashion POV given Campbell's status as one of the most iconic supermodels of all time, and Firth and Montana's combined blue chip campaign clout for labels including Givenchy, Prada, Burberry, Valentino, Tommy Hilfiger, and Marc Jacobs.

The cover slight against Campbell has drawn media ire towards British Vogue's seemingly "whites-only" stance towards its cover models. As reported by the Guardian's Tasny Hoskins, British Vogue has not featured a black model alone on its cover since Campbell's solo appearance in August 2002. More recently, British supermodel Jourdan Dunn appeared on British Vogue's November 2008 cover alongside models Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Eden Clark. When quizzed by the Guardian as to its editorial policy and the exclusion of black models in particular Dunn from its cover, British Vogue's press office responded with the statement, "We have put Beyoncé and Rihanna on the cover of Vogue and at least half of our covers do not feature models. We love Jourdan Dunn and she was the cover star of the last Miss Vogue which previously had featured Cara Delevingne." With Puerto Rican top model Joan Smalls, Egyptian Moroccan newcomer Imaan Hammam, and Chinese model of the moment Fei Fei Sun gracing the cover of American Vogue's September 2014 issue, IMA hopes that British Vogue will recognise the power and beauty of diversity in its cover candidates.

Maximum Coverage - Ophélie Guillermand

One newcomer who grabbed IMA's attention during the castings for Spring/Summer 2014 and has held it ever since is the impossibly divine Ophélie Guillermand. With her beguiling combination of French understated chic, light olive skin, and chestnut brown eyes, Guillermand was a comforting presence amongst the ubiquitous icy peroxide blondes infiltrating fashion's runways. Aged twenty and hailing from Verdun in the North-East of France, Guillermand debuted at the Fall/Winter 2013 collections however it wasn't until the Spring/Summer 2014 season that she truly made her mark with a stellar show list which included appearances at Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Jil Sander, Nina Ricci, Valentino, and Balenciaga. Guillermand's mix of high fashion moxie and brooding sensuality have placed her on high alert with casting directors, designers and fashion editors culminating in a deluge of editorial and runway bookings. Photographed by Steven Meisel for Vogue Italia's December 2013 cover and Prada's Spring/Summer 2014 campaign, Guillermand's blue chip status has been consolidated by ensuing editorial appearances for Intermission, Another Magazine, W, and the German, Japanese, British and American editions of Vogue. Guillermand continues her dream run this month with an only girl editorial for Russian Vogue. Photographed by Jason Kibbler, Guillermand poses in head to toe knitwear styled by Olga Dunina with the clear emphasis being on her alluring visage.

Super Normal, Super Cool

W Magazine highlights the new breed of Supermodel sans artifice with a stellar cast of top models and emerging new talent. Supermodel Kate Moss leads the charge with photographic boy wonders Mert & Marcus capturing the motley crew cast on location; court side, shooting the breeze at the park, and for a series of informal studio portraits. Industry veterans Daria Werbowy, Raquel Zimmermann, Lara Stone, Meghan Collison, and Suvi Koponen are joined at the hip by models of the moment Amanda Murphy, Anna Ewers, Saskia de Brauw, and Mica Arganaraz. Fashion and style director Edward Enninful and Mert & Marcus capture the essence of "Super Normal Super Models" channelling the editorial shoots for Peter Lindbergh, Herb Ritts, and Steven Meisel from the early 90's but with a paired-back modern day spin. The cast of everyday supermodels pose while shooting hoops, communing with nature, and catching a few rays au naturel. Kitted out in tank tops, flannels, oversized sweaters, basic denim, and head-to-toe black ensembles the stellar line up of beauties are captured cavorting with male models Daan Van de Deen, Filip Hrivnak, and Steve Milatos. Each of the ten girls featured possesses her own distinct allure and memorable beauty harking back to an era when models were anything but banal.
